Sorakaya or bottle gourd or Calabash is harvested young to be consumed as vegetable. It can be cooked with dal / lentils or cooked as it is with some spices. Lauki as it is called in Northern part of India is also used to make kheer, dessert made of milk and sugar.
Today I will be preparing a simple curry made with bottle gourd and dal along with some spices. Its goes very well with steamed rice or roti. This recipe goes for day 1, week 2 of BM 105 under the theme " Everyday easy dish for Rice / Roti".

Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp

I love the combination of dal and veggies. These are perfect during those busy weekdays. Apt recipe for the theme.
Yummy. We make it without the onion and chili powder and call it theeya pappu. Love these kind of simple and tasty dals to go with rice.
Pappu sorakaya is simple but delicious curry. It goes well with rice or roti. Soulfood.
I agree with Suma. Simple recipes like this make everyday food really delicious! I like to prepare dals like this to go with rice for lunch as well as dinner.
Soryakayya pappu goes well with both rice and roti. An easy one for busy weekdays.
As Suma said, we don't add onion and red chili powder and make it to go with rice. But his one looks colorful and inviting.
I am always looking for different bottle gourd recipes to make as my boys love this vegetable. This is a lovely recipe and something new to us. I will try this soon.
