Namak para

Namak para also known as Nimki in some parts of India is a savory and crunchy snack prepared in Indian sub continent. These are seasoned with crushed carom seeds, black pepper and salt. Maida can be replaced with wheat flour too. Great snack to go with tea or for road trips or for  school snacks. This simple and crunchy snack is one of my favorite.

This recipe goes to week 2 day 3 of blogging marathon 118 under the theme " Cook your favorite food".

Ingredients:

All purpose flour / Maida 2 cups

Crushed ajwai / Carom seeds 1.5tsp

Crushed black pepper 2 tsps

Salt to taste

Oil / butter 2 tbsp

Oil for deep frying

Preparation:

Add crushed black pepper, carom seeds and salt to flour.

Add melted butter or oil and mix well.

Now add enough water to make a semi hard dough.

Knead it well cover and set aside for 10 minutes.

Knead the dough once again and divide it in to 3-4 equal portions.

Roll the dough like roti / chapati , dust with dry flour if required.

Now cut the rolled roti into diamond shapes.

Heat oil for deep frying, add few cut diamond strips into hot oil and fry till nice golden brown or until crisp.

Remove and let the cool completely to store in air tight container.

Namak para stays fresh for more than 2-3 weeks.

We make with chilli powder. Like the usage of black pepper. Perfect combo for a cup of chai.

This was such a must in our family when growing up! Amma always made the spicy ones along with the sweet and it was my favorite. Love how simple the recipe is.
