Palakura pappu or Palak dal is a simple Andhra style lentil dish cooked with spinach and spices.
This dish is typically served with hot steamed rice or chapati / roti. I love to have this dal with hot
rice and any pickle mixed together. And some friamns or papad on the side to munch on.
This recipe goes to week 2 day 3 of Blogging Marathon 121 under the theme " Dazzling Dals".
Ingredients:
Spinach / Palak / Palakura 2 cups
Toor dal 1 cup
Onion chopped 1/4 cup
Tomato chopped 1/2 cup
Green chili slit 1
Garlic chopped 1 tsp
Curry leaves 6
Dry Red chili 2
Udad dal 1 tsp
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Hing / Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
Oil 1 tbsp
Preparation:
Wash and presser cook dal for 3-4 whistles or until fully cooked.
In a deep sauce pan or kadai, add oil.
Once oil is hot add mustards seeds, cumin seeds, udad dal, curry leaves, red chili and hing.
Saute for few seconds and add slit green chili, chopped garlic and onion.
Cook till onions turn light pink, add tomato and cover to cook till mushy.
Now add washed and chopped spinach.
Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Now add cooked dal, turmeric powder and salt to taste.
Also add 1/4 cup water and mix well.
Cover and cook for 3-4 minutes.
Delicious palakura / spinach dal is ready to serve.

The dal looks tasty. This is best with rice. This exactly looks how my friend prepares and I am going to try your recipe as I love this version.
This is the most popular everyday dal for us without onion and garlic of course.

I make spinach dal almost once a week. Sometimes use different types of greens. This looks so delicious and nutritious dal.
Palak dal looks very inviting ! The tempering on top makes it more tempting sushma! I would happily gobble this dal as such!!!
