Onion & Tomato Curry

Hello friends,  its been longtime I have posted a new recipe. Lot of things happened  in last  few

months. Couldn't complete August last week posts as I had to travel to India.  It was a sudden and a

short  trip but nothing serious, all well. Its been 4 yrs I have been to  India, luckily  I was able to

celebrate my birthday and Ganesh Chaturti with my family after soo many years.

It is so nice to be back to blogging. Today we are starting with 2nd week of Blogging Marathon 128.

I choose to post 3 side dishes for Tiffins. Poori is one of our family favorite tiffin. Kids love to have

poori with Chana masala or Besan potato curry, whereas dear husband likes to have with onion

tomato gravy. Onion tomatogravy  is one of the simplest curry which goes very well with poori or

Chapati. Lets check out  the list of ingredients and procedure.....

Ingredients:

Onions sliced 1 cup

Tomato sliced 2 cups

Slit green chilies 3

Chopped or sliced garlic 1 tsp

Mustards seeds 1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds 1 tsp

Chana dal 1 tsp

Curry leaves 4

Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp

Chili powder 1 tsp

Salt to taste

Tamarind pulp 1 tsp

Jaggery powder 1/2 tsp

Chopped cilantro 1/4 cup

Oil 1 tbsp

Preparation:

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them crackle.

Now add cumin seeds. chana dal, slit green chili, curry leaves and garlic.

Saute for few seconds, add sliced onions and cook till the raw smell dissappears.

Now add sliced tomato pieces, turmeric and salt.

Mix, cover with lid and cook on low to medium flame for 5-6 minutes.

Now add tamarind pulp, chili powder and jaggery powder.

Mix, add 1/4 cup water and cook till tomatoes turn mushy.

Adjust salt at this point of time, add chopped cilantro and switch off the flame.

Serve hot with poori or roti.

Check to see what my fellow bloggers are cooking for Blogging Marathon 128.

Good to know you were able to travel and spend time with your family. Ever since you shared your parents garden, I always look forward to those pictures...this is an easy side dish and must have tasted great with poori.

Love this flavorful and simple curry that we too enjoy in our home. I too make it the same way! This is amazing with poori, chapathi, or dosa.

Good that you could travel in between the chaos that is going around and enjoy with your family. The curry though a simple one is loved in our family for it's flavor.
