Cabbage poriyal is a famous South Indian dish that is sauteed with mustard seeds, curry leaves,
ground green chili with coconut. In the traditional Poriyal moong or any lentil is also used to make
it more healthy and nutritious. I like it without dal / lentil so I skipped that ingredient. This is one of
my favorite side dish to have with roti / paratha.
This recipe goes to week 2 day 3 of Blogging Marathon 129 under the theme " Cook your favorite
food".
Ingredients:
Cabbage grated 2 cups
Curry leaves 6
Chana dal 1 tsp
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Red chili 1
Grated coconut 1/4 cup ( dry or fresh )
Green chili 2
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil 1 tbsp
Preparation:
In a pan heat oil and add mustards seeds, once the seeds crackle add cumin seeds, chana dal, curry
leaves and red chili.
Saute for a minute and add grated cabbage.
Add salt and turmeric powder, mix , cover and cook on medium flame for 5-7 minutes.
Meanwhile grind green chili and grated coconut.
Add this mixture to the cabbage, mix and cook further for another 5-6 minutes.
Switch off flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Such a simple and quick recipe. I too make it exactly the same way and our family enjoys it.
easy, quick and flavorful and reminds me of home all the time. Love such homey meals.
