Ram Ladoo ~ Delhi Street Food

Ram ladoo is a popular street food from Delhi. You are mistaken if you think  this is a sweet dish. Its

a snack dish made with deep fried pakodas. Moong dal and chana dal are soaked and then ground to

paste along with some chilies and ginger. Then deep fried till crisp and served with green and sweet

chutney. Garnishing with grated radish is a must as it adds lots of flavors and crunch to the dish.

So lets get started and make this street style yummy snack.

This recipe goes to Week 2 Day 1 of Blogging Marathon 131 under the theme " Street Food

 Special".

 Ingredients:

Moong dal 3/4 cup

Chana dal 1/4 cup

Ginger chopped 1 spoon

Green chili 3

Salt to taste

Cumin seeds 1 tsp

Oil for deep frying

 Toppings:

Green chutney as required

Tamarind chutney as required

Grated radish 1/2 cup

Chopped cilantro 1/4 cup

Chaat masala

Grated carrots 1/4 cup ( optional )

Lime juice

Preparation:

Wash both the dals 2-3 times and soak in 3 cups water for 4 hours.

Drain water and add the dals to blender along with ginger, green chili, salt and cumin seeds.

Grind to semi smooth batter, do not add water.

If unable to grind smooth add 1 -2 tsps water not more than that.

Transfer to mixing bowl, whisk it well for 2-3 minutes to incorporate air and make the batter light

 and fluffy.

Heat oil for deep frying, take little batter with a spoon or with your hand and drop it in hot oil .

Fry few pakodas at a time till they turn golden brown and crispy.

Remove from oil and transfer  them on paper towel to remove excess oil.

Serving:

In a serving plate take some pakodas, sprinkle some green chutney and tamarind chutney on top.

Add some grated radish, carrots, sprinkle some lime juice and chaat masala.

Finally top it with chopped cilantro and serve.
